James Gunn’s Supergirl DCU Movie Has Officially Found Its Writer

Prepare for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow!

Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow DC Comics

DC Studios is progressing its cinematic universe with the addition of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a standalone feature focusing on Superman’s Kryptonian cousin. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ana Nogueira, known for her acting and playwriting, has been brought on board as the screenwriter for the upcoming DC Universe movie.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a fresh take on Supergirl, distinct from the legacy left by previous DC Films head Walter Hamada and separate from the interconnected storyline of the previous DC film lineup, including The Flash. The film draws inspiration from a recent comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely., which was published between 2021 and 2022.

Ana Nogueira’s journey with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a unique one. Initially, Nogueira was hired to write a script for a Supergirl movie envisioned as a spin-off from The Flash, which was then in post-production and featured Sasha Calle in the role of Kara Zor-El. However, as James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins of the DC Universe, they focused on developing a brand new slate, leading to a reevaluation of the Supergirl project. Nogueira’s previous work on the character, however, caught the attention of the new leadership, resulting in her being rehired for the standalone film.

Who Is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira?

As Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins to take shape under Ana Nogueira’s pen, the project is still in its early stages, with several key components yet to be finalized. The film does not have a director attached, nor has a release date been set, reflecting the recent closure of Nogueira’s deal.

Ana Nogueira may be familiar to readers from her acting stints on The Vampire Diaries, The Michael J. Fox Show and The Blacklist. Beyond her acting achievements, Nogueira has also carved out a successful career in writing. Her play Which Way to the Stage made its off-Broadway debut in 2022. She is also involved in adapting the short story Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters for Warner Bros. and 21 Laps.
