James McAvoy Says He’s Not Returning As Professor X In ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Is he lying?

James McAvoy has revealed that he won’t be popping up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a young Professor X.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to feature a medley of cameos from across the Marvel landscape, including the 20th Century Fox X-Men films. The major appearance we know of is Patrick Stewart, who will be stepping back into the role of Professor X after 2017’s Logan. It remains to be seen how integral his role is in the Benedict Cumberbatch sequel but it speaks volumes that Marvel Studios is attempting to fold in the projects they didn’t produce.

Rumors have suggested that there are countless cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and fan speculation has run wild, assuming any and every character and iteration is a possibility. Seeing as Patrick Stewart is set to return as Charles Xavier, fans have been hoping to see James McAvoy, the young Professor X, also appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel.

When asked by a fan on his Instagram if he’s on track to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the star gave a disappointing answer.

“‘Are you in Doctor Strange?’ No.”

While there’s a high chance that McAvoy, like the rest of the Marvel film’s stars, are sworn to secrecy. On the other hand, isn’t one Professor X enough? Both possibilities exist but luckily the Doctor Strange sequel is only weeks away from release so we’ll know sooner rather later which X-Men characters are now in the MCU.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the upcoming movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
