Variety reports James Wan is set to direct a new untitled horror film before he begins work on the Aquaman sequel with Jason Momoa.
Director James Wan’s Aquaman debuted to a box office success that ultimately led to the Jason Momoa film grossing over $1 billion at the global box office. While James Wan is expected to return to the director’s chair for Aquaman 2, Variety sources say the filmmaker will helm a new horror for New Line Cinema as his next project.
Plot details on the untitled horror film are currently under wraps, though the script will be co-written by James Wan and Ingrid Bis. Furthermore, James Wan will produce through the Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear.
The reported plan is for James Wan to begin filming the new horror film in Los Angeles this fall before starting pre-production work on the Aquaman sequel with Jason Momoa in 2020. According to the outlet’s sources, James Wan wanted to work on a project in the vein of his previous horror films, such as The Conjuring, before returning to DC Universe with Aquaman.
Aquaman 2, currently scheduled to be released in theaters on December 16, 2022, will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Jason Momoa will reprise his role as the titular hero, but fans can relive the first Aquaman film on all home media formats.
