Casting plays a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of blockbuster films. A prime example is the casting journey of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which involved Jamie Dornan, best known for his role as Christian Gray in the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Back in 2010, when casting for Man of Steel commenced, the list of promising young actors being considered for the role of the Last Son of Krypton could be described as a diverse roster. One of the most intriguing names that surfaced during this process was Jamie Dornan.

Jamie Dornan’s Superman audition mistake

During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Dornan opened up about his audition experience for Man of Steel. He revealed: “The only one I auditioned for is Superman. That was way back when, like when Henry Cavill got cast. That’s probably 12 years ago or something. I wore my own suit there. Was that a mistake? They were Superman pajamas, they weren’t an actual suit. I remember an early audition for that. I got nowhere near putting the [real] suit on.”

Jamie Dornan then added the following: “I’ve had meetings with heads of studios that do those things and would talk about it, but I never got deep in any audition process for them.“

Following his audition for Man of Steel, Dornan’s cinematic journey took diverse turns. While Henry Cavill eventually secured the role of Superman, Dornan carved a niche for himself in other genres, with critically-acclaimed projects like Belfast and The Tourist.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent.

Man of Steel is now available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Zack Snyder and his upcoming Netflix film Rebel Moon, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more exclusive video content in the future!
