Jason Momoa was photographed getting “arrested” as the Aquaman star protested the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii.

The photo features Jason Momoa with four policemen in Hawaii as he is put in a position that looks as if the Aquaman actor is about to be put in handcuffs before being taken into custody. However, as you can see from the playful look on Jason Momoa’s face as well as the rest of the police officers involved, the photo is obviously staged.

Aquaman actor Jason Momoa has been protesting the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) on top of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano. The area in which TMT is proposed to be constructed is sacred to Native Hawaiian culture and religion. Jason Momoa is joined by many other Hawaiians protesting the construction of the TMT and was even joined by his Justice League co-star Ezra Miller earlier this week in solidarity.

Jason Momoa has Native Hawaiian ancestry from his father and also is of Native American descent from his mother’s side. Some of his cultural background was incorporated into the backstory for his role as Arthur Curry in the recent Aquaman movie, with the character’s father being played by Temuera Morrison, who is of Māori descent.

Jason Momoa was last seen in Aquaman. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news on Jason Momoa and the future of the DC Extended Universe!
