Jason Momoa has reassured fans that Aquaman’s future in the DC Universe is safe, despite not being part of the current DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters line-up. In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Momoa spoke about his confidence in Aquaman’s future in the DCU, saying “Peter [Safran]’s my producer [on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom], and is a dear friend. I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU. It’s on, bro – there’s no one bigger than Aquaman!”

Jason Momoa’s comments come after new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled their future DCU plans, which did not include Aquaman in the Gods and Monsters line-up. However, Arthur Curry fans won’t have to worry as Momoa is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is set to hit cinemas later this year.

During the interview, Momoa also shared details about the upcoming Aquaman sequel, promising fans that it will be a fun and enjoyable experience. “There’s some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening in this one,” Momoa said.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
