This movie will be a direct continuation of the first two films in the franchise, which were released in 1984 and 1989 respectively. Jason Reitman is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena. The project is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2020. In addition to Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Carrie Coon, Ant-Man star Paul Rudd has also joined the cast.
Since the new Ghostbusters was announced, the project has been under fire from those involved with the 2016 reboot. Melissa McCarthy has already expressed her support Jason Reitman, however, Leslie Jones slammed the new sequel, going as far to say that it was “something Trump would do.” Director Paul Feig, on the other hand, has shown his support for both Leslie Jones and her position on the new sequel, while also supporting Jason Reitman taking the reigns of the franchise his father Ivan Reitman created in 1984 with the original Ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters 2020 is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 10, 2020.
