Thanks to a Twitter post from Production Weekly, we are now aware when and where production on Jason Reitman’s upcoming Ghostbusters sequel will begin!

According to @prodweekly the long awaited true sequel to Ghostbusters 1 & 2 will begin shooting in Calgery, Alberta around the 25th of June and should last about 15 weeks total.

The latest Ghostbuster adventure is slated for a July 10th, 2020 release date. Although it is a direct sequel to Ghostbusters 1 & 2, we do not have a cast list yet, therefore we do not know for sure if any of the original scientists will return to reprise their iconic roles.

It is believed that Jason Reitman will bring back Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd from his father’s original two films. Perhaps we’ll even get a heartfelt moment honoring the late Harold Ramis.

Jason Reitman told Entertainment Weekly that the follow-up film was written in secret with writing partner Gil Kena while working on another project. He also said that he had his doubts the film would ever get made but surprisingly the studio gave him a green light.

It’s understandable that Jason Reitman would hesitate to pitch his film to the studio because of the reception to 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot which was an all female-led film. A film that had such a fan backlash that caused some cast members to leave social media because of all the cruel scrutiny.

Actress Leslie Jones was one of those cast members. She recently went under fire for her comments about the announced sequel when she spoke out on her Twitter account to expose the “better with men” mentality in Hollywood.

Although Reitman has not confirmed or denied an all-male cast, it’s been said that the film will be focusing on a younger, teenage cast with both genders evenly represented.

Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena, the new Ghostbusters project will begin filming in the coming months.

The Untitled Ghostbusters Sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2020.
