Javicia Leslie of God Friended Me fame is set to replace Ruby Rose as Batwoman for the CW superhero show’s upcoming second season.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Ruby Rose would be leaving the role of Batwoman. The actress portrayed the character for the Elseworlds crossover before getting her own show which wrapped up its first season earlier this year. Fan’s were shocked when it was announced that Ruby Rose was leaving the role, reportedly over the long hours that filming the show involves. Now the show has found its new lead in God Friended Me actress, Javicia Leslie.
According to a report from Deadline, Javicia Leslie will replace Ruby Rose as Batwoman for the show’s upcoming second season. The actress, who has not played a previous character in the CW series, will be playing a new character named Ryan Wilder. In a statement, the actress said that she was extremely proud to portray the character and to be a part of such a groundbreaking series:
“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”
