Saban Films Picks Up Rights To ‘Jay And Silent Bob Reboot’

One, two. One, two, three, four. Noise, noise, noise. Jay and Silent Bob are back. Not striking back, but back. For it turns out that Saban Films have picked up the North American rights to Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob reboot, which will serve as a sequel to the 2001 film- Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

According to a report from Deadline, this new partnership with Saban Films will serve as a way to take Jay and Silent Bob to new places and do new things with the property. Bill Bromiley, the president of Saban Films, had this to say:

Jay and Silent Bob is a global franchise which has a very loyal fan base.  Partnering with Kevin at script stage on the next chapter of these iconic characters is a huge milestone. This is the beginning of a new initiative at Saban Films, to partner on IP with seasoned filmmakers and talent early on in the creative process all the way through distribution.”

Within Kevin Smith’s Askewniverse, we haven’t seen Jay and Silent Bob on screen since Clerks II, but we have seen the two together on-screen in roles very similar to this on television, such as on The Flash, where Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes might as well have been playing Jay and Silent Bob. Speaking of, in addition to Smith and Mewes, the Jay and Silent Bob film will include other actors from the Askewniverse. The film itself take pot shots at sequels, reboots, and remakes, with the irony that the movie itself is a sequel.

If I didn’t know any better, I would think that this movie was written by Wade Wilson. But what do you folks think? Are you excited to see Jay and Silent Bob back on the big screen in the future? If you have a negative comment about it, do you think they’ll pay your place a visit, as was done in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? Let us know your thoughts on Kevin Smith’s upcoming project in the comments below.
