‘Avengers’ Concept Artist Reveals Pre-Ronin Look For Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye

Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park has shared the pre-Ronin look for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye from Avengers: Endgame.

One of the biggest development points in Hawkeye’s character arc was when he became Ronin in the first act of Avengers: Endgame. After his family had been snapped, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was engulfed in rage and sorrow which led him to assume the role of Ronin. In the film, we only saw Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye living the domestic life with his family and then jumping straight into the look of Ronin.

While the weight of Ronin could be felt through the actor’s performance, it would have certainly been interesting to have seen Hawkeye’s look prior to him donning the samurai-centric look. A brand new piece of concept art from Andy Park, Marvel Studios’ Director of Visual Development, shows Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye prior to him assuming the role of Ronin.

Jeremy Renner’s physical transformation into Ronin mainly consisted of him getting a different haircut, which entailed a faux-hawk with a fade. There were also some Ronin-inspired tattoos seen in a couple of scenes where Jeremy Renner was sleeveless.  This artwork from Avengers: Endgame shows Hawkeye rocking his classic haircut and wearing a suit that he would normally wear. As Ronin, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye wore all-black suits and used a sword as opposed to his bow, the character’s signature weapon.
