According to Visual Effects Supervisors at ILM, J.J. Abrams was keen to get easter eggs from Star Wars history in the Resistance fleet during The Rise of Skywalker.
In a new interview with the Visual Effects Supervisors at Industrial Light and Magic, it was revealed that J.J. Abrams was keen to put Easter eggs in the Resistance fleet in the climactic battle at the end of the film. Dedicated fans already spotted the Ghost from Star Wars: Rebels in the moment where Lando Calrissian arrives with an enormous wave of ships. But it seems like there are more Easter eggs to be found in the finale of the film.
According to Neal Scanla,n who worked on The Rise of Skywalker at Industrial Light and Magic, J.J. Abrams asked the team to include plenty of references to other Star Wars series in the huge battle sequence. Scanlan explained that the Fireball from Star Wars: Resistance appears alongside other notable ships that fans will no doubt enjoy hunting for on the home media release of the film.
“J.J. was very keen on us getting some of that Star Wars history and nods to other series in there, because he loves that stuff so much. The Fireball from Resistance is in there, and there are some other ships from the other animated series. You throw them in the giant fleet, and they get a lost a little bit in the mix.”
