In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, J.J. Abrams revealed the reaction Harrison Ford had when the director called him about reprising his role as Han Solo for The Rise of Skywalker. Fans will remember that Kylo Ren/Ben Solo murdered his Father as a way of proving himself to the Dark Side in The Force Awakens. However, according to J.J. Abrams, it was quite easy to get Harrison Ford to return for the final film in the Skywalker saga.

“Well, I called him and I said, ‘We want to have a scene in the film between Kylo Ren and his father, would you do it?’ And he said, ‘Okay,’ It’s not more interesting!”

During the film, Harrison Ford returns as the memory of Han Solo to help sway Kylo Ren/Ben Solo away from the Emperor’s control. But J.J. Abrams explained that Harrison Ford just wanted to make sure that his return was meaningful in the story and that there was genuine emotion behind it. J.J. Abrams said that the pair talked for a while about how it would take place before sending him the script. Take a look at J.J. Abrams discussing Harrison Ford’s return below.

“We had a meeting and talked about what it would be. Harrison, who is one of the great people ever, and incredibly thoughtful about everything that he does, all he ever wants is to understand the utility of the character. ‘What is my role?’ It was about sitting with him and explaining what our intention was. We talked about it for quite a while, I sent him the pages. He got it, and of course, as you can see, he was wonderful.”
