J. J. Abrams Wants The First ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy Released In Its Original Form

J. J. Abrams Star Wars The Last Jedi The Rise of Skywalker

J. J. Abrams expressed his desire to see the first Star Wars trilogy released in its original form.

Over forty years after the first Star Wars film was released in theaters, the epic saga will now come to an end with the release of J. J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker. Of course, the original Star Wars trilogy has been significantly retooled by George Lucas since it concluded with Return of the Jedi.

Fans have been calling on Lucasfilm to release the original Star Wars trilogy as it was seen upon its initial release and J. J. Abrams revealed he would also like the see the unaltered versions return during an interview with Now This News. However, J. J. Abrams revealed that he’s been informed that it may not be possible and recounted an instance where the multiple version of the original trilogy caused some confusing while working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

“I have asked about this, ’cause who wouldn’t want to see that? But I’ve been told that, for reasons that I quite don’t understand, that that’s not necessarily possible. Which is too bad because that was the thing that I loved. In fact, it’s funny, when we were working on [Star Wars: TheForce Awakens, we were talking about this one scene with Vader and the Emperor and we were having this disagreement about what was said, and, in a way it was, like, we both felt crazy. And we realized we were talking about two different versions, because there’s the ‘despecialized’ version, which you can see online, someone got me a version, and then there was an official version. There was the original theatrical version and then the version that people see now.”

Do you join J. J. Abrams in wanting to see the unaltered original Star Wars films? Are you disappointed to hear that we may never see the original versions of the first Star Wars trilogy?
