Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has now become the first film in ten years to take the number spot at the UK box office for six weeks.
Over the past weekend, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker earned an additional £1.7m at the UK box office, falling only 32% from the previous week’s figures. With the latest weekend earnings, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has become to 30th highest-grossing film of all time in the UK.
Furthermore, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has become the first film to earn the number spot at the UK box office for six weeks in a row in a decade. This feat was last accomplished by James Cameron’s Avatar, which took the top spot at the UK office for eight consecutive weeks and ten weeks in total. In the past decade, only Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Toy Story 3 have come close to reaching the six-week reign of Joker, with the former taking the top spot at the UK box office for five weeks in a row and the latter hitting number one spot for five non-consecutive weeks.
