The future doesn't look too bright for Slade Wilson.

Joe Manganiello doesn’t have high hopes for a potential Deathstroke return.

After returning as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s been radio silence regarding what’s next for the world’s most deadly assassin. Played by Joe Manganiello, Deathstroke made his DC Extended Universe debut in the theatrical cut of Justice League back in 2017. The character was originally supposed to appear in Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film, which failed to manifest, as well as a scrapped solo film from director Gareth Evans. Early concept art even saw him appearing in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad.

Things looked bright for the character after he returned briefly in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but it looks like fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a future Deathstroke-related project. In a chat with Coming Soon, Joe Manganiello offered a disappointing update regarding Slade Wilson’s future in the DCEU.

“No, I let that go a while ago.”

Warner Bros. and the DCEU are largely attempting to distance themselves from Zack Snyder’s DC films, dubbed the “Snyderverse”, so it makes sense that Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke has been put on the backburner. The studio could still recruit the actor for a future project. After all, stranger things have happened, such as Ben Affleck returning for The Flash after leaving behind the role of Batman.

Here is the synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

The Snyder Cut stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Both versions of Justice League are available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of Henry Cavill as Superman, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
