John Boyega reveals what he thought of Colin Trevorrow’s plans for Star Wars Episode IX.
John Boyega became a household name thanks to his role as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A former First Order Stormtrooper, he left the Order to join the Resistance and was one of the film’s primary point of view characters. As the series went on, however, his role was cut down to make space for Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron.
The final film in Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy was originally set to be directed by Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow. For reasons that have always been somewhat vague, Disney and Lucasfilm took Trevorrow off the project and scrapped everything he had planned. JJ Abrams would go on to take over the film, resulting in a movie that received mixed reviews from critics and became the lowest-grossing entry in the sequel trilogy.
Since the film was released, details of the movie that Colin Trevorrow had originally planned began to steadily leak out. Among the plans was a finale set on Coruscant and John Boyega’s Fin leading an army himself. The actor has never been quiet about how he felt Disney handled his character but didn’t have much to say about Trevorrow’s planned film until now.
A Meeting Of Star Wars Nerds
During a recent interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, John Boyga revealed his thoughts on Colin Trevorrow’s planned Star Wars film and how he was heartbroken about what could have been:
“I can’t read that one because I’ll be heartbroken, because I was… I had a sit down with Colin. I want to tell you… that’s one of the best Star Wars… meetings I’d ever had because it felt like two nerds that were like, ‘Yes, that’s what we want to see!’ …And I saw the art, you know, Stormtrooper rebellion, I was like, that stuff was cold.”
John Boyega’s Finn was last seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Here is the official synopsis for the film:
