John Cena’s Peacemaker is officially back in action. Max and DC Studios have unveiled the first trailer for Peacemaker season 2, confirming the series’ return later this year.
The show picks up after the events of season 1 and The Suicide Squad, with Cena reprising his role as the gun-toting anti-hero Christopher Smith. James Gunn once again serves as creator and showrunner, continuing his work on one of DC’s most critically acclaimed live-action projects.
The Peacemaker Season 2 trailer arrives ahead of the show’s return in August 2025
Peacemaker season 2 is set to arrive as part of DC Studios’ broader rollout of new content, right after the upcoming James Gunn-directed Superman. The trailer’s release marks the beginning of the marketing push for what’s expected to be one of Max’s biggest series of 2025.
James Gunn, who created and directed the first season of Peacemaker, is returning to direct the second season alongside three additional directors. The show, starring John Cena as the title character he first played in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, also features Danielle Brooks, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Created by writer Joe Gill and artist Pat Boyette, Peacemaker was introduced as a member of Task Force X, a team of supervillains who are sent on a dangerous mission by the government. The character is known for his extreme dedication to peace, even if it means resorting to violence to achieve it.
