The Blast reports that the City of Lies crew member who is suing Johnny Depp for assault is seeking $70,000 for the alleged incident.
Earlier this year, crew member Gregg “Rocky” Brooks sued Johnny Depp for allegedly punching him on the set of the film City of Lies. Johnny Depp recently requested the judge reclassify the case as a “limited civil case,” arguing it should be moved to a lower court and that any damages awarded should be less than $25,000. Now, The Blast has obtained court documents revealing Brooks is demanding the judge deny Johhny Depp’s request to move the case to a different court.
Johnny Depp does not believe punitive damages are warranted in this case, denies the incident ever occurred, and notes that did not Brooks failed to claim any medical expenses. However, Brooks argues in the documents that he lost wages as a result of the alleged incident, “which at the time of the discovery response, were estimated at $70,000.”
Should the cast move to a lower court, the most Brooks could be awarded is $25,000 and he argues, “given the nature of the complaint, the facts of the case herein, the injury suffered by the Plaintiff, and the harm Plaintiff continues to suffer, it is highly likely that the damages awarded in this case will exceed $25,000.” Therefore, Brooks is requesting the judge allow his case to remain in the same court and move forward.
Johnny Depp is currently set to star in the third Fantastic Beasts and recently appeared in the second chapter of the series.
