Johnny Depp Reportedly Finished With ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Franchise

Pirates of the Caribbean Johnny Depp Disney Deadpool

Following reports earlier this week that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were tapped to develop a new Pirates of the Caribbean film for Disney, it is looking likely that Jack Sparrow actor Johnny Depp is finished with his role as the iconic hero of the franchise.

According to Stuart Beattie, a credited screenwriter for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, he seems confident that Depp’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow is going to be retired from the franchise moving forward, which is looking to reboot with a new take:

“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now. And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, so I’m just very, very happy about it.”

In recent years, Depp has been tied to controversy in his personal life which includes but is not limited to his marriage to actress Amber Heard and allegations of physical abuse against her before the couple divorced. Depp’s casting as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise from Warner Bros. Pictures and J.K. Rowling has also been controversial for similar reasons.

If Depp is finally hanging his Captain’s hat and sword as Jack Sparrow, how do you think Disney will breathe new life into this franchise? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brendon Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, Kevin McNally, Stephen Graham, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush. Here’s the official synopsis:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
