Johnny Depp has won his much-publicized defamation trial against Aquaman star Amber Heard.

Hollywood icon Johnny Depp has been awarded $15 million in his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, following a high-profile, multi-week trial in Fairfax County, Virginia. A seven-person jury deliberated for three days over the verdict, coming to the conclusion that a Washington Post editorial written by Heard defamed her former husband.

However, Amber Heard won on one count of her countersuit, arguing that she was defamed when a member of Johnny Depp’s team said that her allegations were an “abuse hoax.” Jury members found that Depp should be awarded a total of $15 million in damages while Heard should receive $2 million.

Amber Heard’s official statement folllowing the trial

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” Amber Heard said in a statement, shared on her official Twitter page. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.

“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously. I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK.

“I’m sad I lost this case,” Heard’s statement continued. “But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”

The defamation trial was broadcast live on Court TV. The trial was also being live-streamed on Court TV’s website, though it was not available on any other online or streaming platforms.
