‘Joker’ Casts Douglas Hodge As Batman’s Future Butler Alfred Pennyworth

ComicBook.com has confirmed that actor Douglas Hodge will play Batman’s future butler Alfred Pennyworth in Joker.

Warner Bros. and DC’s Joker will explore a new origin for the classic Batman villain, but the Clown Prince of Crime won’t be the only character from the Caped Crusader mythos to appear in the film. Penny Dreadful star Douglas Hodge will portray Alfred Pennyworth, butler to the Wayne family whom fans know will later become Batman’s trusted ally and surrogate father.

Douglas Hodge is also known for his roles on The Night Manager, Robin Hood, and Catastrophe.

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
