‘Joker’ Director Todd Phillips Shares BTS Photo Of Joaquin Phoenix On Steps

"Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?"

Todd Phillips has shared a behind the scenes photo of Joaquin Phoenix on the iconic “Joker” stairs.

Almost a year ago, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker was being lauded by both comic book fans and critics for its sharp social commentary and innovative take on the origin story of the Clown Prince of Crime. After its fall festival run, Todd Phillips’ Joker went on to make over a billion dollars at the box office, an impeccable feat for an R-rated comic book film. Shortly after its theatrical run, Phoenix managed to scoop up the Best Actor Oscar at the Academy Awards, the second-win for the character after Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight.

To this day, Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker continues to be a cultural landmark, both in how we view mental health in the modern age and how comic book films are rapidly evolving. To celebrate the film’s legacy, Phillips took to Instagram to share an image of Phoenix dressed up as the Joker on the “Joker” stairs in New York.

Here is the official synopsis for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker:

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is now available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news surrounding DC Films and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content in the future!
