NYCC ’16: Jon Bernthal Talks About The Best ‘Daredevil’ Scene He Filmed

Jon Bernthal, of The Walking Dead and Daredevil, came to NYCC this weekend for his own actor spotlight. During the panel, Bernthal greeted fans and answered their questions, discussing his career and his iconic roles. One of those roles is that of Frank Castle, a.k.a the Punisher, in season 2 of the Marvel/Netflix series, Daredevil.

Bernthal antagonized the titular superhero during most of season 2, bringing his own twisted and complex sense of justice to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. During the fan Q&A, Bernthal was asked quite a few things about his portrayal of the Marvel anti-hero. He couldn’t discuss everything, but he did talk about a couple of things, like if he considers the character a hero or a villain, and whether he studied previous Punisher actors.

Bernthal was also asked about his favorite scene to film during Daredevil Season 2. Although he couldn’t really choose once scene, Bernthal did answer the question by discussing two scenes he found to be very good for Punisher’s character.

“The monologue I did in the graveyard in episode 4 really let everyone know what Frank was all about…I think what’s so brilliant about the way that Netflix delivers content is that it allow you to be bold with the storytelling. The stuff in the prison and the prison fight. The stunt team is just incredible. All of them are incredibly ambitious.”

In the second season of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal portrayed Frank Castle, who came to Hell’s Kitchen on a mission to kill the one’s responsible for his family’s untimely death. This willingness to murder puts him at odds with the NYPD, as well as Hell’s Kitchen’s very own vigilante, Daredevil.

Bernthal will be reprising his role as Castle in a Punisher solo series, set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017. Not much is known about the plot, but more will likely be revealed as we near the release date.
