Jon Favreau discussed the possibility of seeing Star Wars Legends characters like Mara Jade or Thrawn in The Mandalorian.
After Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Expanded Universe was rebranded as “Legends” and was no longer considered official canon. However, certain elements and characters, including the Imperial commander Thrawn, have since been included in canon Star Wars projects.
Still, other characters such as Mara Jade have yet to be re-introduced into Star Wars canon, though some fans are holding out hope that Jon Favreau’s Disney+ series The Mandalorian could feature these fan-favorites one day. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jon Favreau addressed the possibility featuring Thrawn or Mara Jade in The Mandalorian by noting that the series has the opportunity to introduce those elements:
“I don’t want to talk about anything that might be fun for people to discover. We do have conversations. Part of what’s fun to see if we could merge the worlds of the original trilogy, the prequels, the sequels, The Clones Wars, and what’s been considered canon up to this point and what’s been considered part of Legends. I think this show offers an opportunity to bring in all those elements so no matter what your flavor of Star Wars ice cream you like there will be something to enjoy. But you’re asking the right questions.”
