The New Mutants director Josh Boone and star Charlie Heaton do not seem to think that their versions of the X-Men characters would fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ever since Josh Boone resumed work on The New Mutants for Disney, the question that has been on everyone’s minds is if and how the film would fit into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The popular theory among some was that Disney would wait to see how audiences and critics responded to the film before deciding whether or not to incorporate it into the larger Marvel universe. Director Josh Boon, however, seems to think that his film and characters wouldn’t fit into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While speaking with Screen Rant, The New Mutants star Charlie Heaton opened up about his upcoming film and revealed that he did not think that the film would fit with the Avengers universe:
“It’s hard, because I think kind of what Josh is saying, this really feels so in its own world. It’s really hard to see them stood next to [MCU heroes]. They just don’t compare. These are kids doing the best with what they have.”
Josh Boone echoed these sentiments by saying how odd it and out of place it would be if Wolverine showed up but was still open to making another one:
“It would be really weird in this movie if Wolverine showed up. They’re sort of in their own tonal space, and the aesthetic space is sort of its own thing. So, it’d be weird and interesting to see them kind of with other characters. But to me, if fans love it, we’d certainly love to make another one.”
