Academy Award-nominated actor Josh Brolin will be pulling double duty in the superhero genre next year when he tackles the roles of Thanos and Cable in Avengers: Infinity War and the sequel to Deadpool, respectively. In an interview with Collider, Brolin discussed his experience playing the Mad Titan in the upcoming Avengers films and revealed how he landed the role of fan-favorite character Cable in Deadpool 2.

Josh Brolin expressed his enthusiasm over playing Thanos in Infinity War and explained how the delay of the George Jones and Tammy Wynette biopic lead to him landing the role of Cable in the next Deadpool film:

“I had a really good time. I mean look, I’ve had a blast playing Thanos. I mean, that’s been one of the funnest jobs I’ve ever had and we were supposed to do George and Tammy. We were supposed to start May 8th with Deacon shooting and all this kind of stuff and then it fell through at the last second and right after it fell through this Deadpool thing came in and they said, ‘are you interested in doing this?’”

Josh Brolin explained that he was initially reluctant to commit to multiple projects as the same character until his wife convinced him to read the Deadpool 2 script:

“I read it and it was so reverent and funny and hysterical that once I got through it I was like, ‘that’s it’ and I had no idea [about] the fanbase. I had no idea what it represented and I think we’ve made something really special.”

When asked if what was weird to sign on to what will likely be multiple films as Cable, Josh Brolin said:

“No. We’ll call it our limited series. This is our limited series. Going back to really fun writitng. It’s a great tone, anything goes. It’s a really fun streatch for me to be involved in that comedic community.”
