A new concept design shows Avengers star Josh Brolin replacing Ben Affleck as Batman with a Dark Knight Returns-inspired Batsuit.
Ben Affleck made his first appearance as Batman in a costume that was loosely inspired by the Batsuit from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League received mixed reactions, many consider Ben Affleck’s performance as the Dark Knight and the costume he wore to be one of the most faithful depictions of the DC Comics icon in a live-action movie. However, before Ben Affleck was ultimately cast as Bruce Wayne, Josh Brolin had been up for the role.
Digital artist “SmartSheep” believes it would have been great if Avengers star Josh Brolin could have played Batman in a direct adaption of The Dark Knight Returns. This artwork imagines Avengers star Josh Brolin in a Batman suit that is nearly identical to the outfit Ben Affleck wore for his role as the Dark Knight in the DC Extended Universe.
Here’s what Avengers star Josh Brolin could look like in Ben Affleck’s Batman costume.

So I know Ben Afflecks Batman was lightly inspired by Frank Millers Dark Knight returns, but how awesome would it be if @joshbrolin got to play the bat in a live action adaptation of the comic? I think he would kill it in the role! He definitely has the looks and the talent to pull it off! And right now I don't think there is a better pick for the job than him – – Feel free to repost, just remember to give credit! – – Follow me @smartsheep.art – – #batman #thebatman #batman2020 #batmanmovie #thedarkknight #thedarkknightreturns #frankmiller #thanos #cable #avengersendgame #avengersinfinitywar #deadpool #deadpool2 #brucewayne #dc #dccomics #dcu #dcuniverse #art #fanart #digitalart #digitalpainting #photomanipulation #adobe #photoshop #adobephotoshop #joshbrolin #batmanvsuperman

Unfortunately for fans of Ben Affleck’s Batman, his time as the Caped Crusader has come to an end. Now, Robert Pattinson will play a new version of Bruce Wayne in a new Batman movie from War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves, meaning Justice League will be Ben Affleck’s final outing as the Dark Knight.
Josh Brolin, on the other hand, portrayed Thanos in the two most recent Avengers films. However, Josh Brolin’s time as Thanos has also seemingly come to and as the Mad Titan was erased from existence by Tony Stark during the climactic battle of Avengers: Endgame.
Here is the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
Avengers: Endgame is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Ben Affleck, Batman, Josh Brolin and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
