Empire has released a first look at Julianne Moore’s character, Poppy, from the upcoming Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Speaking with Empire, director Matthew Vaughn describes Poppy as “America’s sweetheart gone wrong.”
You can check out the photo of Moore as Poppy below.
Vaughn certainly had to find someone who could replace Samuel L. Jackson’s Valentine from the first Kingsman film. And Julianne Moore fits the bill in that she is a very versatile actress who can play any kind of character fairly well. We all remember her President Coin from The Hunger Games films. Based on the image above, it looks like Poppy might be serving up some burgers and trouble to go along with it.
“I thought it would be fun to see her play this kooky, sweet, Stepford Wives-style villain that, at the same time, is lethal and crazy and intelligent. Julianne is a fascinating actress. She can play wholesome so well, but also pretty crazy and tough. She was in my head as I was writing.”
Vaughn says that he “was worried about the villain,” but that Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s plot will have everyone talking once they see the film.
“I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. What I loved about Valentine [the bad guy in the first movie, played by Samuel L. Jackson] is that his plot made sense. I’ve come up with a whole new villain plot that I guarantee people will be debating.”
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, The film stars Taryn Egerton, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Vinnie Jones, Sir Elton John and Halle Berry.
Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…
Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be released in theaters on September 22, 2017.
