Batman’s vast arsenal of weaponry and costume is no stranger to undergoing various changes and upgrades after each live-action appearance he makes on film. The same goes for his most recent appearance in Justice League.

Fashionista recently spoke to Michael Wilkinson, the man behind the iconic costumes featured in Justice League and Batman v Superman who discussed some of the changes made to the aesthetic of the Batsuit and how he wanted his live-action incarnation to pay homage to his appearance in the comics:

“We wanted to honor the idea of a gray Batsuit as opposed to a black Batsuit. Batman in the graphic novels is usually drawn with a gray suit with a black cape as opposed to all in black. Also, Zack [Snyder] loved the idea that Batman’s forearms would have this extra metallic plating strapped to it to collect hits and bullets and any kind of incoming.”

Even though Batman is a mere human amongst a team of superpowered heroes, there is no denying that the Dark Knight would need some extra protection against the extraterrestrial threat of Steppenwolf and his Parademons. Wilkinson also delved into Batman’s tactical suit which is featured prominently in Justice League:

“Batman faces a challenge of even higher intensity in this film, so we wanted to give him what we call a ‘tactical suit’ for high-level battle for when things are becoming more serious and deadly. This suit has exterior layers of armor and extra details and it has a different cowl. He has additional eye protection.”

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
