Justice League composer Danny Elfman has revealed his thoughts on the ever-growing Zack Snyder Cut movement.
In the past few weeks, thanks to the members of the Justice League taking to social media, the Zack Snyder Cut has gained intense momentum. Almost everyone who has worked on the film has mentioned the Zack Snyder Cut of the film, including Justice League‘s original composer Junkie XL who stated that he’s made music for it.
Joss Whedon, who took over directorial duties for Zack Snyder after a family tragedy, handpicked Danny Elfman to take on the score for Justice League. Fans might remember Danny Elfman’s scores for Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns. In a recent interview with Joe.ie, Danny Elfman, who replaced Junkie XL as composer for Justice League, was asked about his thoughts on the Zack Snyder cut.
“Well, the thing is, he never finished it. So, I don’t know quite how they’d do that. He had a tremendous tragedy, which forced him to not finish the film. So, it wasn’t like… I don’t quite understand this, because it wasn’t like he was fired, and that there is a Director’s Cut that is a finished movie and that the studio fired him and then hired Joss. When Joss came on the film, he stepped in with only a few days notice, to pick up the helm because of this terrible, terrible tragedy that happened. So it is kind of a unique situation. I mean, there is definitely other movies where the director was fired, and a studio radically changed the movie because they didn’t like it. And as a fan, you go ‘I wonder what the director did, before the studio changed the movie.’ But I’m not really aware of how that dynamic would really apply here.”
It appears that, despite composing the final score of the film for the replacement director, Danny Elfman genuinely has no idea regarding the situation regarding the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League. According to this quote, Danny Elfman doesn’t necessarily feel biased against it, but rather just curious about the whole falling out between Zack Snyder and the studio. As time goes on, support for Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League continues to become more apparent. If the Zack Snyder cut were to be released, we could perhaps even see an amalgamation of Danny Elfman and Junkie XL’s score.
