A Justice League storyboard from Zack Snyder’s version of the film showcases Henry Cavill’s Superman fighting Steppenwolf.
Nearly two years after the release of the film, an alternate concept showcasing Superman’s battle against Steppenwolf near the end of Justice League has been revealed. In the released film, Superman’s arrival spells doomsday for Steppenwolf’s plan for world domination, as he’s able to lead the Justice League to victory in between trading blows with Steppenwolf.
In a newly-revealed storyboard from Jay Oliva, it seems like Henry Cavill’s Superman taking Steppenwolf to the cleaners still would have been the plan in the Zack Snyder version of the film. However, one shot would have shown Superman using heat vision alongside a punch to Steppenwolf’s face. Check out the concept art of Superman battling Steppenwolf below:

In spite of fan demand, there are not plans to revisit Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League after the theatrical version of the movie lost millions of dollars for the studio, as DC Films has found plenty of success elsewhere. A proposed director’s cut of Justice League would still cost millions to finish (since not all VFX sequences have been completed according to people who worked on the movie) and promote (even if it were surprise-dropped on HBO Max). Ultimately there may not be enough interest from casual audiences to make a revision of the film profitable. Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill have also moved on from DC Films, with a return for either currently unlikely.
Here’s the official synopsis for Justice League:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD.
