Reports and rumors that Ben Affleck will soon relinquish his role as Batman in the DC Extended Universe have prompted fans to begin suggesting their own candidates who could portray the Caped Crusader, with Karl Urban being a popular choice for many. In an interview with Jo Blo, Urban commented on whether or not he would portray the Dark Knight and revealed his favorite Batman film.
When made aware of the fans suggesting that he could play Batman, Urban stated that he was “open” to the opportunity, but admitted that he had not considered the possibility before:
“Oh, really? Wow. I don’t know. I haven’t really contemplated that. Usually the way the process works for me is I get sent projects, sent scripts and I read them, meet with the filmmakers and really on that basis choose to get involved. As far as Batman goes, I guess my favorite Batman movie was THE DARK KNIGHT. Chris Nolan is just an extraordinary director and I thought Christian Bale was a fantastic Batman and obviously with such talent like Heath Ledger that was the perfect comic book movie right there.
So, I don’t know, I’m open to any and all opportunities.”

While Ben Affleck is reportedly expected to reprise his role as Batman in the standalone Flash film titled Flashpoint, he may not be appearing as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The writer-director was reported to be planning to search for a new actor to star in the film with rumors linking Jake Gyllenhaal and Jon Hamm as potential candidates for the role, though there has been no official confirmation that either actor is a contender to replace Affleck.
