Lucasfilm President On Disney CEO’s Comments About Han Solo’s Name

Han Solo Chewbacca Star Wars Disney Lucasfilm

Star Wars Celebration Orlando included plenty of reveals and announcements for the future of the Lucasfilm franchise but noticeably absent was any news regarding the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story, the next spin-off film which is currently in production right now.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently dropped a head-scratching bombshell that left fans confused when he revealed at the USC tech conference that we will discover how Han Solo got his name in the spin-off film. But over the weekend, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy offered some clarification on Iger’s comments telling MTV’s Josh Horowitz:

“I’m not sure that that’s entirely what Bob meant. There’s more to Han Solo’s name, but it’s not that it’s not his name. It’s obviously his name. It will always be his name.”

Perhaps Iger could have meant fans will discover how the swindler became known across the galaxy as a smuggler. The new film is set to chronicle the young Han, played by Alden Ehrenreich, from the age of 18-24 and will include him meeting Chewbacca (Joonas Suotomo) as well as finding the Millenium Falcon.

The film also stars Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams and Woody Harrelson as Beckett, the young Solo’s mentor.

The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. The film is being directed by The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and is currently slated for release on May 25, 2018. The film has been described as a western with a color palette influenced by the paintings of Frederic Remington.
