Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy took to the red carpet premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story and talked to the folks at HeyUGuys about her enthusiasm for the latest installment to the now Disney-owned franchise.
The film is a prequel before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, with the character of Han Solo front and center, exploring his early days as an outlaw, and witnessing his early interactions with some classic characters such as Chewbacca (Joonas Suotomo) and Lando Calrissian, portrayed by actor Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino). Kennedy expressed her excitement for the new film, offering up some details about the spin-off without giving too much away:
“It is so exciting, we are going to see how Han met Chewie, and I think a lot if people are wondering how that happened, so it’s pretty exciting.”
The Amblin Entertainment alum and Solo producer was all smiles during the interview, elaborating on the excitement the film provides as she gave high praise towards Star Wars veteran screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan:
“I got to work with Larry Kasdan who had done The Empire Strikes Back and [Return of the] Jedi, and he worked with his son on this movie, Jon Kasdan. So I think that was one of the most enjoyable things because Larry really knows this story, and he really knows the characters, so we were finding lots of little new details that we could put in this film.”
