With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 only a few months away, new images, TV spots, and information have been pouring in. Now, one more tidbit of information about the Guardian whose greatest power might just be his ability to steal our hearts has been revealed. That’s right, there’s some new information about Baby Groot. In the Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl spot (and other various trailers and images), fans have noticed that Baby Groot appears to be wearing a costume. Comicbook.com recently got a hold of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and asked about Groot’s new duds.
“He only has it very briefly and that is a Ravager costume, which the very mean Ravagers sort of quickly sew and put him in, because they think it’s funny. Groot does not think it’s funny.”
It sounds like the Ravagers are at it again, this time trying to make fun of the diminutive-yet-fierce Guardian. Given that Groot is unamused by his costume, there’s a good chance that he’ll make the Ravagers who dressed him up pay before movie’s end.
In addition to revealing the origin of Baby Groot’s costume, Feige went on to reminisce about the jovial spirit of the first film.
“Well, I would say the spirit of that continues throughout the entire movie, starting with an opening in which they’re supposedly the heroes, but they went and snagged the frickin’ thing they were supposed to be protecting, which was a very early idea that James [Gunn] had.”
So, there’s now an official reason behind Groot’s costume. Did you like the outfit, or were you glad to see Groot without it later on in the Super Bowl trailer? You can take a second look at the trailer below.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos.
