Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On What Excites Him Most About ‘Black Panther’

After making his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman will reprise his role as Black Panther in the titular character’s first solo film. In an interview with Vulture, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the upcoming film, praising lead star Chadwick Boseman and explaining what excites him most about the highly anticipated project.

Feige recounted the moment he initially offered to role to Boseman.

“You always like your instincts being validated, and Chadwick was the first choice for us. He was the only person we ever talked to about the role, and one of the highlights of my career was calling him out of the blue on a speakerphone with [Civil War directors] Joe and Anthony Russo and our executive producer Nate Moore, who’s now executive producer of Panther. I said, “‘Have you ever heard of Panther? Would you want to play him?'”

Feige revealed what excites him most about the film.

“It’s really exciting that this part of the universe is so unbelievably diverse and looks unlike any of the other films that we’ve made. The cast looks different than any of the other casts that we’ve had. Both in front of and behind the camera, it’s almost entirely people of color, which I think is a special, important thing, and one of the reasons the film will be unique and as great as I think it’s going to be.”

7 Reasons To Be Excited For ‘Black Panther’

Previous1 of 8

Black PantherBlack Panther is coming back, and trust me when I say his movie will be worth seeing.

I know it’s hard to get excited when there are so many superhero movies coming out every year, but Black Panther is a character that deserves a shot on the big screen. Not only was he the first black superhero, he naturally serves as an extension to the rest of the MCU. Finally we’re not focusing on someone from New York City, T’Challa was born and raised in Wakanda, a whole different jungle compared to NYC.

Black Panther is as smart as Mr. Fantastic and as fierce a fighter as Batman. Unlike most of the marvel characters who are defined by one trait, Iron Man as dependent on tech or Cap as overly patriotic, Black Panther is a multi-faceted character.

I almost gave this list 8 reasons just because I’m excited to see what Stan Lee’s cameo is gonna be. Fingers crossed for a stereotypical tourist on safari.
