‘Fantastic Four’: Kevin Feige Hints At Casting For The MCU Reboot

Get ready to meet Marvel's First Family! (Again)

Fantastic Four Marvel MCU Kevin Feige

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted at the casting approach for the Fantastic Four MCU reboot.

When it comes to Marvel Comics heroes’ big screen adaptations, the Fantastic Four have had an uphill battle. Whether you got the infamous unreleased Roger Corman film from 1994, Tim Story’s two films from 2005 followed by its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007 or Josh Trank’s critically-reviled 2015 reboot, it hasn’t been easy on Marvel’s first family. Thankfully, Kevin Feige announced during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day that they would be finally incorporated into the MCU, following Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox, which restored the big-screen rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men to Marvel Studios.

Although a release date hasn’t been set for the upcoming MCU reboot of Fantastic Four, Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming; Far From Home; No Way Home) is set to direct. Naturally, fans are already speculating on who will be cast in the iconic roles of Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing. While promoting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Kevin Feige teased the casting approach for the highly-anticipated reboot to comicbook.com:

“I think the MCU is a beautiful combination of both [established actors and new faces]. I think you look no further than Simu in Shang-Chi, like Chris Hemsworth, like Tom Hiddleston, like Tom Holland, an actor that hadn’t been seen by a tremendous amount of people before, or you have a Benedict stepping into Doctor Strange or Christian Bale stepping into Gorr in our Thor film. It is always a beautiful combination of both, and it really is about the search for the best actor for the job whether that actor is known to the world yet or not.”

Casting announcements for the MCU’s Fantastic Four is still a long time coming, but it’ll be interesting to see how Kevin Feige, Jon Watts and the casting directors will implement a combination of established actors and new faces. The studio has previously done that to great success, with its latest example in giving Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu the privilege to headline their latest film in Shang-Chi alongside more established actors such as Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh and Tony Leung.

Here is the synopsis for the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot:

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Directed by Josh Trank, 2015’s Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, and Tim Blake Nelson.

Fantastic Four is available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital. Stay tuned for the latest news on Kevin Feige and the MCU Fantastic Four reboot, and be sure to check out and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more great video content in the future!
