Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, took issue with Iman Vellani’s WandaVision viewing habits between takes on Ms. Marvel.
Iman Vellani appears as Kamala Khan, A.K.A. Ms. Marvel, in the new Disney Plus series of the same name. The young star is a huge Marvel fan, as she has attested to in many interviews, and was shooting the latest MCU series at the time of WandaVision‘s release. Naturally, Vellani found herself catching up on the series between takes, but Kevin Feige wasn’t impressed with how she was watching the show.
Marvel Series Are Made For TV
During an interview with Marvel Entertainment, Saagar Shaikh, who play’s Kamala’s older brother Aamir in Ms. Marvel, shared a story about Kevin Feige catching Iman Vellani watching WandaVision on her phone between takes. Apparently the producer was unimpressed, saying series like WandaVision aren’t meant to be watched on phones:
“I’ll tell you a secret. Kevin Feige got mad at her for watching WandaVision on her phone. He’s like, ‘They’re not made for phones! Watch it on TV!’”
While it’s funny to hear Marvel Studios’ head honcho defending the inteded viewing experience for the studio’s shows like this, it’s also encouraging to see that Iman Vellani is such a fan that she wasn’t going to let filming her own MCU series prevent her from keeping up to date with other MCU releases.
Saagar Shaikh’s other story about Iman Vellani’s WandaVision viewing habits just added further confirmation to how invested in the MCU Vellani is. The actor revealed:
“She was on her iPad between takes. WandaVision had come out, and [while she was watching] she said ‘What?’ out loud and she fell to the floor because she was so excited about what she had just seen. I don’t know what it was. I didn’t want to interrupt her viewing. But yeah, she’s very excited. She’s a fangirl.”
It’s great to see the latest MCU star is so invested in the universe she has just entered. In many ways, Iman Vellani’s love of Marvel echoes Kamala Khan’s own obsession with the Avengers and Captain Marvel. It’s easy to see why Marvel chose her for the job.
Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, and Farhan Akhtar. Episodes of the series were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with Bisha K. Ali serving as the head writer. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is involved in the series as an executive producer.
