In a recent interview, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige said a Spider-Man and Venom will likely happen, but it’s all up to Sony.
An unprecedented deal between Sony and Marvel Studios was made back in 2015, which allowed Spider-Man to appear in the MCU. However, that didn’t stop Sony from starting their own Marvel Universe. In 2018, Tom Hardy’s Venom earned more than $800 million worldwide and Morbius starring Jared Leto is currently in production. It has been unclear whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is connected to Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, but Kevin Feige shared with CinemaBlend it is up to Sony:
“I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”
Despite not having the rights to Spider-Man, Marvel Studios did recently acquire the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four through the Disney-Fox deal. Meanwhile, the Hulk rights are still tied up with Universal for solo films and Namor’s remain complicated.
