Kevin Smith has been very open about his respect and admiration for David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad. When the two meet at the premiere of Squad, the result was a complete fanboy reaction in the best way possible.

During an interview with Comicbook.com, Smith was talking about Ayer and how impressed he was that this movie was made for the big screen.

“I was just talking about you! With this dude, didn’t I say? I was like that f*cking tank movie, I shouldn’t have loved it, I said I loved the tank movie! And End of Watch is a real filmmaker’s film. See? I said it! Dude, I’m stoked. You’re a godd*mned legend.”

Turns out that Ayer is also a major fan of Smith’s work.

“I watch your shows on youtube, I watch all that sh*t, your podcast…” before Smith excitedly interrupted, “Are you getting this?! Dude, I can’t make this sh*t, it looks amazing.”

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne, Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
