Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has found his next franchise as the British actor is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Deadline, Kit Harington has signed on to appear in a Marvel Studios movie. The trade did not provide any further details but Marvel Studios is expected to show off its upcoming projects at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA this weekend, so an official announcement about Kit Harington’s casting could be imminent.
Kit Harington is best known for his role as Jon Snow (a.k.a. Aegon Targaryen) in the record-breaking HBO drama Game of Thrones. The series wrapped up its eight-season run this past May.
The current Marvel Studios Phase 4 slate consists of Black Widow, The Eternals, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye and Thor: Love and Thunder. The studio is also developing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Blade and new Fantastic Four and X-Men movies for Phase 5 and beyond.
While Game of Thrones has come to an end, the franchise is set to continue with a prequel series. Details on the Game of Thrones prequel are still under wraps, though the project is said to be set roughly 5,000 years before the events of George R. R. Martin’s original story.
The pilot for the Game of Thrones prequel will be directed and executive produced by S. J. Clarkson. The series stars Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Toby Regbo, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Alex Sharp, Miranda Richardson, Marquis Rodriguez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan, and Dixie Egerickx.
