Production is still well underway with the James Gunn’s upcoming sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the follow-up to the 2014 smash hit. And it looks like a cast member has finished his role with principal photography.

James Gunn posted on Twitter that Kurt Russell, who is set to play the father of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), has finished filming for his role in the upcoming Marvel space opera.

On Facebook, Gunn continued:

It’s not often your heroes are as awesome in person as you believed they were as a kid. A wonderful guy and incredible actor in every way. And he was nice to my Mom, Dad, and dog. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

How do you guys think Kurt Russell’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will impact the film? What elements are you most excited to see in the upcoming sequel? Personally, I’m excited to see Pom Klementieff’s Mantis join the team as well as Russell’s interactions with the fellow Guardians – most importantly Star-Lord himself. Because let’s face it, if the film were made during the 80’s, Russell would’ve played Quill in a heartbeat.

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens into theaters May 5, 2017.

Personally I want to see Sylvester Stallone’s part as a Ravager more.

    • Same here. Wonder if Tango & Cash will cross paths in GOTG 2.

      • Boogie

lol I didn’t ev n think about that

  • Boogie

Who cares, Adam Warlock had better be in this damn movie.

    • Steve Steve

      What if Russel is Warlock?

      • Boogie

He’s too old for Warlock. Also, Warlock’s role would need to be larger than whatever Russel was there for. Warlock IS NOT Starlord’s father in any conceptual manner; it doesn’t even make sense especially going by Warlock’s personality.

If they made Warlock the villain for this movie, that could make sense, but only if he joined the team in the end. He’s key to fighting Thanos. He’s the one that comes up with the strategy, though it’s to use everyone as pawns.

He should have the Soul Stone, but lose it in the end of GotG2. When there was word that Matthew McConnaghy[spelling] turned down a GotG2 role due to multi-picture contract needs, it was obviously for Warlock…he looks just like him. He would have been a good choice, minus his southern accent.

I doubt it. I could see him showing up in Infinity War.

      • Boogie

Explain, genius, how it makes sense for him to just pop up in Infinity War.

        • Carl

          Read the Infinity Gauntlet comic.

          • Boogie

Oh yeah, I guess Silver Surfer will be there too! Thanks, “genius!” You forget, they have to INTRODUCE these characters. Adam Warlock was around before IG, “genius”. Buy a clue.

          • Carl

Dude, relax. It doesn’t have to happen the way you think it does. My 1st introduction to Adam Warlock was in the Infinity Gauntlet series like many other people. It worked fine for me.

I can see Thanos and Adam Warlock both getting properly introduced to us in Infinity War Part 1. Don’t forget that we get two movies for the war to play out.

          • Boogie

Incorrect. Thanos will send the Black Order to collect the stones in the first movie. Thanos will also be given time to actually star since he really has had very little and most people know little of him. A lot has to happen in the first movie and introducing Adam Warlock is a no go – there isn’t enough time for that. He’s been hinted at in the Thor/GotG post credit scene, it makes sense for him to be in GotG 2. In fact, he’s probably the most important thing about that movie. Otherwise, it’s just a random sequel that doesn’t push the universal story forward.

          • Carl

He could show up in GotG 2 but based on the casting we know of, it doesn’t seem likely.

Did you see Civil War? Both Spiderman and Black Panther got great introductions. They can manage Adam Warlock in Infinity War.

No, GotG does not need to further anything but it’s own characters. I imagine we’ll get some hints or cameos for future stuff but I don’t think it’ll play into Infinity War directly.

          • Boogie

That’s the thing, bro. Adam Warlock IS a GOTG character. It’s pretty much like Avengers 2, getting new members. Mantis isn’t the only one.

          • Carl

Yeah but we have all 5 guardians coming back plus Yondu, Nebula, Mantis and Curt Russell’s character. Probably others as well. Adam Warlock could show up but I don’t think it’s happening. I think we would have heard about him already.

  • Worldmind

I still have him pegged as playing The Stranger.

  • Reynard Rochon

Warlock will be a cameo character exactly like Thanos is in these movies so far. He will not get his own movie I feel because he’s too powerful. Warlock is the counterpoint to Thanos …..Life vs. Death. I Really hope they do the Jim Starlin Magus story and make it grim. Kurt Russell will be perfect to play Adam. Age ?? that’s what makeup is for …….
