The first teaser for Joker: Folie À Deux has been released online, confirming Lady Gaga’s casting and the film’s October 4, 2024 release date.
Fans have been eager to see a sequel to 2019’s Joker ever since the original film was released, though it wasn’t always clear whether the prospect of a sequel appealed to either director Todd Phillips or star Joaquin Phoenix.
Earlier this year, the duo teased a sequel was in the works, titled Joker: Folie À Deux and rumors soon emerged that Lady Gaga was in talks to appear as Harley Quinn. Now the first teaser has confirmed Gaga’s appearance.
Lady Gaga Joins Joaquin Phoenix For A ‘Joker’ Musical
Early reports and rumors have suggested Joker: Folie À Deux will be a musical and, while the first teaser doesn’t outright confirm this, it hints the film will be musically driven.
The teaser confirms both Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are appearing in the Joker sequel and their silhouettes are seen dancing to the tune of “Cheek to Cheek.” While the teaser does not name the character Lady Gaga will be playing, her dance with the Joker seems to confirm rumors she is taking on the role of Harley Quinn.

Joaquin Phoenix was seen busting a few dance moves in 2019’s Joker, turning surreal dance performances into reflections of Arthur Fleck’s psychological descent. The teaser apparently confirms Folie À Deux will continue this motif, as well as extending the first film’s genre-bending approach to a comic-book movie.
In a week that has seen Leslie Grace’s Batgirl canceled and the future of many DC projects at Warner Bros. Discovery called into question, the reveal that Joker: Folie À Deux is on track for its 2024 release will be welcome news to many DC fans.

Director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
