It was recently reported that CW’s Legends of Tomorrow would be bringing in Vixen for Season 2 as a series regular, but with a twist. While Megalyn E.K. has portrayed Mari McCabe, the present Vixen on the animated series on CW Seed as well as in live-action in Arrow last season, her current schedule has prevented her to join the show as a series regular.
Instead, we will be seeing time travel elements come into play as The CW announced today that Maise Richardson-Sellers has been tapped to play Amaya Jwie. She is the grandmother of Mari and will be the Vixen that we see next season on Legends of Tomorrow. Richardson-Sellers is known for her work in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as the CW series, The Originals, a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries. Here is how The CW and Warner Bros. TV describes her take on Vixen:
“Amaya Jiwe – better known as Vixen – is the newest superhero to board the Waverider and join the ranks of the Legends of Tomorrow. Like her granddaughter, Mari McCabe, Amaya’s powers are derived from the mysterious Tantu Totem, which allows her to magically access the abilities of animals.”
The news of Richardson-Sellers as Vixen follows the recent announcement of Nick Zano being cast as Citizen Steel, a member of the Justice Society of America which will be a key focus in the second season. It remains unclear whether or not Amaya Jiwe is actually an member of the Justice Society of America in Legends of Tomorrow’s take of the superhero group, but the possibility does exist for that.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 is set to premiere on Thursday, October 13 on The CW. What are your thoughts on the show adding Mari’s grandmother as Vixen? Let us know in the comments below.
