New story details for the upcoming Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace have been revealed.
Earlier this year, it was officially confirmed that In the Heights breakout star Leslie Grace signed on to play Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl in a standalone movie set for HBO Max. While the film remains in pre-production at this time, DC FanDome was able to give us a few story details on the upcoming film.
According to screenwriter Christina Hodson, the film will be exploring the origins of Batgirl:
“She’s discovering Batgirl for the first time. So she’s getting to explore a duality she’s already had in her personality.”
Leslie Grace will also don Barbara Gordon’s iconic red hair underneath the Batgirl cowl. As development continues on the upcoming film, it will be exciting to see how Barbara Gordon turns out in her first standalone live-action film.
The Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character.
The next Gotham City-based movie is The Batman, which is shrouded in secrecy. We know that the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.
The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding HBO Max’s Batgirl and future of DC Films. Also, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
