Liam Neeson recently revealed that he doesn’t want to do more Batman or Star Wars movies.
One of the most prolific actors to grace the silver screen in the past three decades, Liam Neeson has been a sure-fire hit for genre films. With projects from a wide array of genres under his belt, Liam Neeson has proven to be quite a versatile actor with roles in films like Schindler’s List, Taken, and Love Actually. Much of his fame, however, comes from his roles in films like Batman Begins and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
In a recent interview with ET, Liam Neeson was asked if he would be interested in returning to the superhero genre, alluding to his role as Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins. Liam Neeson responded that he has no reason to return to Batman or the superhero genre as a whole.
“I’ll be honest with you, no. It’s not. I’m really not a huge fan of the genre. I think it’s Hollywood with all the bells and whistles and the technical achievements and stuff — which I admire — but I have no desire to go into the gym for three hours every day to pump myself up to squeeze into a Velcro suit with a cape,”
Liam Neeson continued by praising Star Wars: The Phantom Menace for being a teaching experience for him because he had to work with CGI, but he stated that he was glad that it was his last Star Wars.
“I admire the actors and I know some of the actors who do it — and do it fantastically. It’s just not my genre, it really isn’t. The first Star Wars, I was in that, that was 22 years ago, and I enjoyed that, because it was novel and that was new. I was acting to tennis balls, which were ultimately going to be little fuzzy furry creatures and stuff. That was interesting, acting-wise, to try and make that seem real, but that was the last. It’s quite exhausting.”
Since then, Liam Neeson has certainly tempered his willingness to star in films that began as franchises. He did briefly return to the world of Batman with a small cameo in The Dark Knight Rises. Liam Neeson’s voice as Qui-Gon Jinn was also heard in last year’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Despite being at the forefront of two franchises that set the tone for popular cinema, it’s disappointing that Liam Neeson doesn’t want anything to do with Batman or Star Wars. As time goes on, we’ll surely find another star that can give us both our Batman and Star Wars fix!
