Loki writer Michael Waldron has hinted at a possible Secret Wars connection found in the Tom Hiddleston-led show.
Marvel’s Loki series is finally set to premiere on Disney Plus this Wednesday after an excruciatingly long wait. Set to focus on the shenanigans of Loki as he’s apprehended by the Time Variance Authority to help fix the messy timeline he created, the series is set to be the perfect blend of comedy and action. The premiere doesn’t waste any time, immediately putting Loki in the hands of the Time Variance Authority so his adventure can get going. However, the pilot episode does hint at a possible Secret Wars connection, and writer Michael Waldron has coyly nodded towards it as well.
From the clips we’ve seen, we know that once Loki is apprehended by the Time Variance Authority, he’s strapped to a chair and forced to watch an animated history on the agency. Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse took note of how this animated history could potentially go into the not-yet-seen conflict in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse, as well as if there was a possibility of a “Multiversal War” like Secret Wars that set the stage for the Time Variant Authority to step in.
Speaking with Murphy’s Multiverse, Michael Waldron was explicitly asked if a “Multiversal War” could be a nod towards Secret Wars. While Waldron didn’t come out and explicitly confirm it, he did seemingly confirm that it was an intentional reference.
“We’ll see. You’ll probably know, as well as I do, not everything is just there. If the purpose of that whole thing was to just indoctrinate the audience and everything. Yeah, we’ll see how this plays out in the MCU moving forward.”
