Recently, it was reported that Marvel Studios was developing some standalone series for numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe characters such as Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and the dynamic duo of Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier/Bucky (Sebastian Stan. These series would be exclusive to the new Disney Plus (Disney+) streaming service.
Now, we have official confirmation that at least one of these series is coming to Disney Plus.
The God of Mischief himself, Loki will be the focus of an upcoming new series that’s being developed by Marvel Studios. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed as such when announcing plans for Disney Plus during a Q3 earnings call. Tom Hiddleston is set to reprise his role for the series.
The last time audiences saw Loki, he was unfortunately strangled to death at the hands of the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. It is unknown whether this series would take place before or after the events of that film.
The official confirmation for this Loki series is an exciting opportunity for the future of Marvel Studios storytelling beyond the big screen outings. The MCU can continue to expand its canon through these standalone series centered on some of the beloved heroes that fight alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Hopefully, this means that the series centered on Scarlet Witch and the one about Falcon and Bucky is on the way as well.
