The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime film from Warner Bros. will arrive in 2024.
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power isn’t the only project fans of Middle-earth can expect in the future. Last year, it was announced that Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema were also working on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an anime film set 250 years before the events of The Hobbit, following Helm Hammerhand. Blade Runner: Lotus‘ Kenji Kamiyama is on board to direct The War of the Rohirrim.
On Monday, Variety shared The War of the Rohirrim will arrive on April 12, 2024. In addition to the release date announcement, the Hollywood trade also revealed some concept art from the upcoming anime project and that a casting announcement will soon follow. Here is the synopsis for the last film in the Middle-earth franchise from Warner Bros., The Hobbit and the Battle of the Five Armies:
Set in Middle-earth 60 years before the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, the adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of dwarves on a journey into wild, treacherous lands swarming with beasts of every ilk. After reaching Erebor and encountering the dragon Smaug, Five Armies assemble for an epic battle that could decide the future of all in Middle-earth.
Directed by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, and Orlando Bloom.
